FORMER Town Champion Adam Nash was lucky to keep his leg after losing an argument with an extremely sharp and rapidly moving mechanical device on a building site.

Perhaps this is the first slice of bad luck that could halt Churchills’ bid for a clean sweep of snooker titles in Hampshire this season.

Or perhaps not.

Six wins out of six in Division 1 of the Winchester City & District Snooker League and 13 wins out of 13 in the Southampton & District Social Clubs League Super League makes Mark McLean’s side slight favourites for both titles.

And they won’t stop there. Team member Mike Finn will win his third Town Championship and ‘The Mighty Finn’ and Drew Farminer (who plays for Division 1 leaders Romsey Comrades B) will collect a record third successive pairs title – a feat not even achieved by seven-time champions Dave O’Brien and Chris Holland.

However, it will not be all plain sailing for the Eastleigh based superstars. A shock away defeat at Locks Heath WMC will open the door for Ashlett Club B to storm to a first Burroughes & Watts title.

Moving to safer ground, Brian Sheath (St Denys Cons) will of course depart from the cribbage individual knockout at the semi-final stage for the fifth time.

Eastleigh WMC will win a game in the Winchester league. Believe it lads.

Romsey Comrades B, the only other unbeaten side in the social clubs league, will clinch the pool league title - and then disband.

Shane Castle will reclaim his English Under-14 title. Just a gentle reminder, Shane: you have only 227 days left to become the youngest player to score a maximum in a competition.

And I predict that 2012 will see a first player from the Southampton area qualify for the Main Tour.

Happy New Year
