I AM very pleased for Jean Bayliss (Daily Echo, May 20) that she has recovered from cancer due, she says, to Cancer Research UK’s work.

But I know that many worry about the number of animals used by CR UK and other vivisection charities in Britain, 3.7 million the latest annual government figure.

So may I point out please that a number of charities sponsor only research using the many alternatives to animals. One such is The Human Research Trust of 29 Bramhall Lane S, Bramhall, SK7 2DN. Their current sponsorships include two cancer research projects, plus others into Alzheimers, gynaecological cancer and Parkinsons, etc.

Indeed, grants have been given to Southampton General Hospital. Needless to say all have been successfully used without suffering by dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs and other small animals.

S CLAYTON, Southampton.
