I REMEMBER the numerous contributors to these correspondence columns and editorials who pressed for the invasion of Iraq and who now have egg on their face as a result of the Baker report. Not that many care to admit to their former stance.

There's one thing I urge you not to forget, and that's the role of John Denham in bravely going against the all-consuming stream of Blair propaganda, an action which meant he could no longer hold his ministerial office.

I hope the voters of Southampton will never forget the self-sacrificing virtue of this honest man.
