ON Monday, June 30 there was a message on my answer phone.

A man’s voice uttered two words: “Utterly useless”.

Did he mean that I, an OAP widow, was ‘utterly useless’, or was he one of the many people who do not read and dial the telephone numbers correctly for Southampton General Hospital, Princess Anne Hospital, Royal South Hants Hospital fracture department, appointments department and many more departments that I have been asked for?

I have been polite to every one who has called and told them they are ringing a private number, not a hospital.

Most of the callers have apologised but some seem to think it is my fault.

If a telephone number is left on my answerphone I ring them back and tell them they have left a message on a private phone.

This has been going on now for several months.

I have been in touch with the General Hospital on these occasions and they are doing their best to sort it out.

So, please, if you have to phone the hospital please check the numbers before dialling.
