I FULLY agree with the comments of the reader relating to the lack of public transport in many areas of the city in the evening.

It is a disgrace that you can no longer go into the city in the evening for a night out and get back home at a reasonable hour. Of course you may not be able to even get out to the city after 7pm as some services finish before that and what makes it worse is a lot of these cuts occur less than three miles from the centre.

Perhaps that is why we have so many hotels popping up, ready for all the people that can’t get home We are encouraged to use public transport especially if we are going to consume any alcohol, but with no buses the only choice left is to use a taxi, or not consume any alcohol.

It is not just people who work after 7pm who have trouble getting around, its also people visiting hospitals, family and friends.

We know bus companies have to make a profit but they have also a duty to provide a reasonable service to the public they serve.

Surely an hourly service could be supplied to these areas that do not have any service in the evening.

Relating to the other point that drivers should carry a float and be able to change a £10 if tendered for a fare. Drivers do carry a float but the amount of time wasted at a bus stop having to give change causes even more delays.

In a country that is grinding to a halt on the roads, more needs to be done to encourage people to use public transport.
