I AM writing in reply to some of the comments that have been raised since my letter about Southampton’s Skyride was published (Letters, July 1).

On arriving at the Common late in the afternoon, entering from Bellmoor Road entrance I did not see anything about the route for Skyride. The only publicity I had witnessed said they were taking over the town for traffic free riding.

The company I work for actually printed 44 posters for the council and not one of them had the route on them.

We did indeed all walk single file, keeping my “brood” to one side of the pathway, but it was not good enough for some “speedway” riders who still rode two or three abreast where there was sharing of the pathway.

Also you show me another way of going to feed the ducks that wasn’t on the route and didn’t involve pushing an old blind lady across grass.

Next year why don’t the organisers put tape down the shared paths so then walkers etc can still get to the ducks and enjoy the paths, and cyclists can have the freedom to go as fast as they like without the danger of clashing with others?

SUE NICHOLLS, Southampton.
