I WRITE as a charity giver to Asthma UK every month and as a donor to Mind, Cystic Fibrosis, the British Heart Foundation and cancer charities.
I am not rich but not stingy when it comes to charities.
I was relaxing after work one Thursday when my doorbell rang.
It was a man, totally ignoring my “no cold callers” sign.
I pointed to the sign and he said: “We’re all neighbours and I’m not here to sell anything.”
He then showed me a laminated sheet with the name of a charity on it. I simply told him that I give enough to charities and he left.
My point is, if every charity did cold calling, residents of Southampton would be inundated!
Vulnerable people may fall for these wrong doorto- door tactics.
Isn’t it illegal to knock on people’s doors and ask for money?
