I AM pleased the Daily Echo continues to publicise the dislike felt among many long- standing listeners of Radio Solent regarding the ageism issue and the unwelcome change of programme type and presenters, supposedly to appeal to the younger age group.
I wrote to managing editor Mia Costello expressing the views of a wide circle of listeners (not all in the retired age group) regarding the axing of interesting and intellectual presenters and their replacement with literally disc jockeys'.
I pointed out that one accepts from time to time changes have to be made but the old adage change should be for the better' sadly does not apply to Radio Solent's present policy. To date no reply or acknowledgement has been received.
The Saturday morning programme is particularly unpopular - loud and uninteresting - and many are now switching off at 8am. Likewise on weekdays many now listen only to the local news, weather forecasts and traffic reports or have abandoned the station completely.
