I CAN understand why the residents in Swaythling are against a travellers' site.

My husband and I lived on the Flower Estate for 28 years, raising our three children with no problems.

In September 2006 the council rented the house next door to us to a family of travellers. The family consisted of two boys aged four and nine, and two teenage girls aged 14 and 17, plus the mother.

From the first week that they moved in our lives were made hell by all the noise. They have no carpets down in any of the rooms, and the two younger children rarely went to bed until 2.30am and they were jumping off furniture onto bare floorboards so you can imagine how much that sounded in our house.

The rest of the family were up talking and making a fair bit of noise until about 3.30am.

Because of this my husband and I suffered from high blood pressure and stress related symptoms.

We had a noise monitor in for a week, but the outcome was that there wasn't enough on there to issue them with a noise order.

My husband and I were not going to stay up all night turning this system on and off. We eventually moved out of there into sheltered accommodation as we were literally driven out by these travellers.
