I totally sympathise with Daily Echo reader Mrs Pamela Humphrey, who has concerns about the disregard shown by pavement-riding cyclists in Shirley, Southampton.
I have experienced verbal abuse from cyclists on many occasions. I am a disabled person and it is quite obvious to anyone that I have considerable mobility problems.
On one occasion I was endeavouring to walk along the pavement opposite the former Shirley police station when a group of hefty youths on cycles cut me up from behind, passing me on both sides, which surprised and startled me.
One youth leaned back and told me that I should look where I was going. I sarcastically replied that I was sorry because I hadn’t realised that I had been walking in the road.
My comment probably went over his head but I did receive the customary four-letter expletive followed by the word “off”.
