YOUR readers can decide whether I am right or wrong on the question of the closed Testwood paddling pool.
The simple fact is that, last year, there was a huge public demonstration of support when the Tories running Totton & Eling Town Council decided to save money by keeping pools closed much of the day.
Hundreds of people signed my petition and it forced the council into an embarrassing U-turn.
Most people would have learnt their lesson from this and ensured the paddling pool in Testwood was safe and ready to use by summer. However, here we are in mid-July, with no prospect of the pool opening.
Apparently, what was okay to do for the last 45 years is no longer acceptable and it is quite impossible to use any of the council reserves to fix things – yeah, right!
Thank goodness for people power. Over one thousand people signed my petition this year.
The community has rallied. There are fund raising events all over the town.
I have no doubt we will eventually get our Testwood paddling pool back in operation and I say three cheers to that. I don’t want to start a petition three years running.
Councillor David Harrison, Totton
