READERS may be interested to know what happened to the duck and her ducklings who nested in Grosvenor Square (Daily Echo, April 27).

I first saw them walking up Bedford Place at 11am and chatted to the man who had called the RSPCA at about 8am on April 25 and was told that their officer was in Basingstoke.

A policeman and another man shooed the ducks into the garden of 30 Carlton Road. The RSPCA did not arrive.

At approximately 1pm the policeman went away to find a box. When he returned with one the onlookers had been joined by two community support officers.

The policeman made a grab for the duck but she panicked and flew off.

The officers then caught the ten ducklings, put them in the box and into the police car.

All of us who saw this were disgusted and told them so.

I said if they left the box in the front garden the mother would return to them. It made no difference. I was told "Take it up with the PDSA'' before they drove off. I cried all the way home.

I returned to the scene about an hour later and the mother was searching for her ducklings.

I went home and contacted the RSPCA in the hope that their officer could reunite her with the ducklings.

I was phoned later that afternoon and to my anger found that no one had been sent out.

Mother duck was still looking for her ducklings the following morning.

You can imagine my anger on seeing your story and the RSPCA's comments. If they had responded this little family would not have been broken up.
