VISITING Southampton Sports Centre with my children recently, I was amazed how run-down it looked!

I remember, not that long ago, it was a very popular place for families to visit as there was always something to do or look at.

On the day of our visit, a very warm day, I noticed that no-one was playing football or hockey, there was no-one on the running track or bowling green, only two people were playing tennis and only three skiing, the boating lake and the ice cream hut were closed and the only thing for us to do was have a round on the crazy golf which is in such a bad state it is embarrassing.

What's going on, Southamp-ton City Council?

GRAEME DAY, Maybush, Southampton.

A Southampton City Council spokesman replies: We are sorry that Mr Day was disappointed after his recent visit to the sports centre. On average more than 500 people enjoy its facilities most weekends.

Individuals and clubs from across Hampshire use the facilities daily to exercise, compete and socialise.

To increase physical activity locally the council offers something for everyone from seasonal cricket, football and tennis to bowls and putting. In addition there are many exciting events scheduled over the summer including Race For Life and It's a Knockout.

This summer we will be reconditioning the crazy golf course and offering a comprehensive list of children's activities and courses during the summer holidays.
