I AM thoroughly disappointed that Southampton City Council has abandoned Estate Regeneration plans for the Redbridge, Maybush and Millbrook areas of the city.
I shared the views of many residents that attended a standing-room-only consultation meeting on the subject in January; we objected to the scheme being an excuse to squeeze new houses between existing properties and on the edges of green spaces like Mansell Park and Green Park, but were very much in favour of the actual “regeneration” aspects of the project.
Situated where we are on the outskirts of the city, we seem to be getting lots of industrial development, including the Lidl Distribution Centre and Test Lane Distribution Park, but not very much for the residential areas.
We don’t see many “big projects” around here, so to have the rug pulled from under this one is a real kick in the teeth. I hope that at least some of the money being diverted from this scheme will find its way back to the area.
