I refer to Lee Dunsdon's letter published on July 12.

In spite of Councillor Dunsdon's protestations to the contrary, it seems that a few lessons in finance may be beneficial.

If he wants to play figures with Fawley taxpayers' money, I can match him until the cows come home.

One thing though, facts seem to elude him. The only reason he is able to identify a £177,547 deficit at Gang Warily is because the Conservatives put in place a process that would enable councillors and the public to see where shortfalls were occurring.

Gang Warily has always made large losses, but for many years prior to the Conservatives taking over, the allocation of all costs, to put it politely did not follow the guidelines set out as part of the Best Value regime and therefore exact losses could not be pin-pointed.

The Conservatives shared the clerk's concerns about this real lack of information and from 2003 requested him to identify, separate and correctly allocate costs.

Of utmost importance was being responsible with taxpayers' money. Shame Cllr Dunsdon didn't pick up on this problem when he was previously on the parish council but never mind, here's another lesson for him to learn.

Over the last four years, the Conservatives identified much of what was wrong with Gang Warily but legal requirements prevented us moving as quickly as we would have liked.

However, as soon as was practical, a first class centre manager was appointed who identified profitable ways of increasing income that would ultimately benefit Fawley's taxpayers. Sadly, elections intervened and it looks like it is back to the bad old days with the Lib Dems.

One last point; Cllr Dunsdon said "The Lib-Dems bear in mind that the majority of council taxpayers in Fawley do not use Gang Warily."

Maybe the majority don't use Gang Warily but they do all collectively own Gang Warily so why is he putting the needs of a private football club over the needs of the elderly and disabled of Fawley no matter how few they may be? It seems Cllr Dunsdon still has lots of lessons to learn.
