I WAS interested to read the recent letters about lost recorded delivery items.

I posted a letter delivery to London on July 25 and we kept checking to see if it had been received and signed for.

A week later it had not been delivered. After several phone calls to Royal Mail I was told there was no way they could trace my letter. I was told to fill in a form!

Royal Mail didn't seem to realise how concerned I was because the documents were personal details of my son and a visa application form.

He was told in the post office that recorded delivery was a good enough way to send this.

I have filled in the form and have had a reply saying they are looking into the matter.

During a phone call to Royal Mail I was told that I would be entitled to compensation if it has been lost.

I explained there was no value to the letter it was just personal information which I didn't want anyone getting hold of, but they said if that was the case I would get a book of stamps!

We had to resend all the documents again using special delivery which arrived the next day.

However, it doesn't explain why our mail goes missing.

Surely if they know where it was posted and its destination they must be able to trace it. If not why call the recorded delivery service track and trace?
