CAN we assume that Romsey MP Mrs Sandra Gidley will elicit the views of the family of the woman PC who was shot dead during a robbery up north recently? I rather suspect she would not be flattered by their reply.

In regard to the shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes, regrettable as it was, a fact that never seems to be mentioned is that his visa was out of date by over two years. Had he complied with its requirements he would not have been in the position in which he found himself.

For the majority of law-abiding, taxpaying citizens the much vaunted Human Rights Act has precious little to offer.

But what is becoming increasingly clear to most of us is that it is providing succour, and a means of evading retribution by all the low life, and law breakers of society.

Even the likes of reprehensible Ian Brady, and Ian Huntley use the Human Rights Act as a flag of convenience.

And as long as we have gullible MPs and various do-gooder societies of Mrs Gidley's ilk, who are ready to respond to the dreadful activities perpetrated on the public, with her type of knee-jerk reaction to keep her name in the public eye, there is no chance that things will improve.

I, for one, would certainly support the repeal of the Human Rights Act in favour of a written British Constitution, and I think that seems to be the view of the majority.

When will our MPs and other groups start to consider the welfare of us, the people who pay their salaries, instead of bending over backwards to accommodate the dregs of society?

Come on, Mrs Gidley, give us a little thought too.
