MY FATHER who was in the Navy during the war loved Vera Lynn.
He always said her singing was a big part of keeping the troops spirits up and it reminded him of home in England no matter where he was in the world.
Vera never let fame change her personality, she always was the forces sweetheart and she represented that special war generation with poise and dignity right to the end of her life.
