FOLLOWING Tony Gomm's excellent letter (Letters, November 28) about the Ikea store proposals, may I suggest that if the council can afford to go to Barcelona to study city layout, they can certainly spend a little money spending time at different types of Ikea store locations in Britain, before they commit themselves and the rest of us to a future of complete traffic gridlock in the city centre.

Not only that, in my opinion the Ikea store is an ugly edifice; the colours are too prominent, and it would make an unsuitable addition to the area on aesthetic grounds, apart from any other considerations. Once gain, Government policy appears to have gone haywire.
