I CONGRATULATE you on the feature "What the Victorians did for us", which was in the Weekend Magazine December 8-14.
Every part of it was interesting, so much so that in my opinion it would not be out of place in every library and school in Southampton. I could not help having a wry smile when I read, and I quote: "As the clock tower on the corner of Above Bar Street and New Road chimes the hour, dusk begins to fall on the streets of Victorian Southampton and the gas lamps - installed in 1821 to deter highwaymen - flicker into life". It couldn't have come at a better time just when Southampton City Council are starting to switch some off!
