IN response to the disappointment Mrs Hill of Hedge End expressed for the festive lights in Hedge End, I would like to invite Mrs Hill to do something about it rather than sit back in her armchair and moan.

The Christmas Lights committee has asked for volunteers, did she put her name forward?

If lights over a certain shop are not illuminated, Mrs Hill needs to go in and ask the proprietor why not, as most likely, the lights are physically plugged into an outlet inside the shop; no extension cord is long enough to stretch up St John's Road to the Town Council offices. Hedge Enders also need to question the businesses why most of them don't support the village the way the Botley and Wickham businesses support their villages.
