Your correspondent Sally Yalden writes that she will continue to wear a face mask after 19th July, which is her choice.

The inference from her letter is, because of a potential (yet unknown) threat that a variant could form, we should all do the same and that we are “risking undoing the great work” built during this long period of legal enforcement.

If Sally is a car driver, I can only assume that she also stops at traffic lights when green, in case another vehicle jumps a red light.

It is her prerogative to continue wearing a mask but please do not try to pretend that those of us who won’t are somehow risking danger.

If we don’t move forward on the 19th July when the lights eventually go green, we shall forever be stuck at the junction.
