SOUTHAMPTON City Council is proposing to spend £70,000 on lighting the old walls. I find it ironic that a council that pushes green policies is considering adding to the greenhouse effect.

It is frustrating that time and money can be spent on this grandiose scheme, when I have been trying for nearly a year to get a security light fixed in the car park of the sheltered housing scheme where I live.

I first reported this on January 23, 2007. I called again on February 2, then again on March 5 and yet again on or about December 17.

Several council workmen have tried to repair this light, but this task seems to be beyond their capabilities.

The light would flicker on for a few sconds and then off. Now, after the last repair attempt, it is not working at all.

The majority of people in the city centre would mostly be in the pubs and not have the slightest interest in looking at old walls.
