MY husband has to work after retirement age to keep our heads above water because of the miserable pension offered by the Labour Government. It is one of the worst pensions in the EU because no one can live on it.

We only have one wage coming in because I am registered disabled. Our income is not even near £1,800.54 per calendar month!

Councillor Peter Marsh-Jenks (Letters, January 19) must live in a dream world like his other Labour party cronies. One must remember some other pensioners can get part or all of their council tax paid.

To get a higher pension one is subject to a means test dreamed up by the Labour party, so only a very few lucky pensioners can get higher benefits.

Dream on, Cllr Marsh-Jenks. Why are so many hard-up pensioners working? It's because of the high tax taken from our pensions.

The Tories' 10 per cent council tax discount is very welcome in this household.
