P COLEMAN (Letters, March 21) blames youth crime on the absence of facilities such as youth centres from Southampton.

I completely disagree, and it angers me that people use these shallow excuses to condone thuggish behaviour on the streets.

When I was young my parents did not have enough money to hand out to me every five minutes, but that didn't mean that my friends and I terrorised the neighbourhoods. If I did I would have received a good clip around my ear!

The problem is the parents who do not know where their children are, and let them engage in criminal activities.

Stop blaming the lack of facilities in this city, take the responsibility for them. You chose to have children, so you look after them!
