I WELCOME the debate about turning Southampton into a Capital of Culture (Daily Echo, March 22).
A Capital of Culture could bring wealth and a real buzz to our city. By turning our city into the cultural capital of the south we could give Southampton that wow factor.
The buzz of culture and the arts have brought huge economic and social benefits to many cities in recent years. If Gateshead can have a Baltic Exchange why can't we? Instead of turning old dock buildings into yet more bachelor pads we could develop them into cultural wonders that bring visitors and a wow to our city.
We need a cultural ambassador to drive this proposal forward, and Sarah Bogle seems to be a voice with a vision. Let's back her aspiration to get our city buzzing.
