HOORAY! At last the people of Harefield seem about to get the new school which was promised by the council in 2005 when they approved the amalgamation of the infant's and junior schools. So it might seem from Echo report on March 19, but are we?

Since the decision was made an architect has visited on many occasions, numerous plans for extending the old infant's school have been drafted, the sale of land has been proposed then delayed, and grants of £2million have been won then their time expired.

Can we truly believe that a new school will be opening in March 2010, or will this just be a Sure Start room, the notice board for which was erected a year ago? Harefield residents were sold down the river by the Lib Dem council; the Tories failed us during their short reign; will the coalition bear fruit?

When the schools were amalgamated the council also reduced the intake by half a class; was that short sighted as it is rumoured that children are now being turned away?
