IT is unfair to criticise the motorway engineers for the time it is taking to complete the complicated and much needed improvements on the M27 (Daily Echo, May 16).

Criticism should be laid at the Government's door for neglecting the motorways on the south coast for so long.

This work should have been done years ago.

The SoComms report, produced in 2002, clearly showed that the M27 in particular was at risk and some junctions were described as having serious safety concerns.

If the Government believes that the south coast is the "economic powerhouse'' of this country and will help to lead us out of the recession, then why has it not invested in our transport infrastructure?

Our MPs should collectively be screaming at No 10 by now.
