I AGREE with WR Shail (Letters, April 26) about the mass of charity appeals we receive through the post.

Even charities that I have been supporting for years send further requests when I have sent a cheque to them. It is nice to have thanks for a gift, but what a waste of postage as a cheque is a receipt anyway.

I now keep a record of to whom I have sent and any further requests are binned as I only send at Christmas and Easter or if a major tragedy happens.

If charities spent less on long letters and fancy leaflets telling us what they have done - that would save money and also my recyling bin wouldn't be so full!

After all, we know what they do or we would not support them.

I would rather the money was spent helping those less fortunate than ourselves.
