PETER Moorby's relatives' experience was the opposite to what I and my family experienced when we sat for two days when my mother was dying at Southampton General Hospital (Letters, May 10).
We were shown where the makings for refreshments were kept in a little kitchen and could go there as and when we wanted.
While the staff were very busy with the recovering patients, they never failed to check that my mother was comfortable and that her dignity was maintained at all times.
The chairs are not comfortable for long durations but that should be the least of concerns at such times as it is a hospital not a hotel.
I'm at a loss to know why no one asked the staff about hot food as they would have been directed to the excellent facilities in the basement.
My experience of the hospital and its staff at that time was first class.
