MAY I wish all 1946 babies best wishes for your 60th birthday. We have had such great years, even though we had up to 46 pupils at one time in some classes. That big blackboard at the front of the class, the squeaky chalk, teacher throwing the chalk if we spoke out of turn - such good days.

Meat and two veg for lunch, steam pud and custard for afters (lumps and all). Then there was PE and games, running across country in our school colour undies, so embarrassing, but it kept us fit. Leaving school at 15, wages less than a fiver a week. Youth club was great, jiving around the record player, Del Shannon, Elvis, Helen Shapiro - what bliss.

All the lads playing footie, darts and table tennis, oh my, such memories. Dating, courtship, marriage and having a family, struggling but enjoying every moment. Children now all grown, flown the nest, then the grandchildren, our pride and joy to utterly spoil.

Good times, bad times and maybe some sad times, we've all been there, so cheers to you all. I, too, will be a pensioner in December, oh and my bus pass to collect, I must remember.

Happy birthday.

MRS B E NEEDHAM, Rownhams.
