AFTER reading the report of Chris Perry's bin rage' on page 3 of October 4th's Daily Echo, I was none too pleased myself!
As a resident of Oliver's Battery I would like to express my thanks and gratitude to a team of Serco employees who obviously have a sound work ethic.
I applaud the initiative shown in starting work at an early hour. How very wise to empty the bins before the roads become congested with the off-to-work and school-run traffic. I am sure that many residents would prefer to remove their emptied bins from the pavement before leaving for work themselves.
I was heartened to read that one of the drivers had started work early to get his boy to school'. This shows that he is not only a conscientious worker (not afraid of getting up early), but also a responsible parent.
I am amazed that a complaint was lodged that bins were being emptied too early. I can undersand complaints about bins being emptied late at night, or not empied at all.
Surely if Chris Perry has a grievance, it would have been more appropriate to go through the appropriate channels, rather than taking the extreme action of blockading a quiet cul-de-sac.
When city councillor Brian Collin states It is not reasonable to start work before 7am.'', I have to say that he is not representing me! I do hope that Serco's internal investigation will congratulate their work-force on doing an efficient job for the community.
Mrs Sue Axford, Oliver's Battery, Winchester.
