WHY on earth do Sainsbury’s want to tear down a perfectly good and busy store and replace it with another superstore?

Within seven miles of Eastleigh they already have three superstores. Hedge End and Portswood are easily accessed by bus, and there is Badger Farm.

All have good road access and ample parking. Add to that several smaller local stores – Eastleigh and Shirley being among the largest and Bedford Place, Southampton, and Winchester the smaller ones.

I think that the millions it would cost in demolition, lost business etc is a waste of good money. All it may achieve is to slightly increase sales there but at the expense of another store.

There are only X number of customers with Y pounds to spend. If they want to expand, do so within the present building. There must be room to put a second level over part of the store.
