The incidents took place at various stores including Tesco Express in Ocean Way, Asda in Portland Terrace and Sainsbury's.

A number of items were also taken from Co-Op stores in Archers Road, Commercial Road and Maritime Walk.

Fleming, of Southampton Road, pleaded guilty to nine counts of theft from a shop.

He also admitted a single count of failing to surrender to bail.

He was sentenced to 60 days in prison after magistrates found the offences were "so serious that only a custodial sentence can be justified".
