A MACHETE-wielding man has been jailed after attacking a father with a foot-long blade at Catford Bridge station and crying: “I’m going to kill you boy.”

The victim’s head was hit during the “cold-blooded” attack in front of his two young children on August 23 last year, leaving him with a large cut to the face and injuries to his upper body.

Damion Huxtable, aged 31, from Bristol, was sentenced to 12-and-a-half years in prison at Blackfriars Crown Court on March 1 following a 10-day trial.

He had earlier pleaded not guilty to one count of grievous bodily harm with intent.

The court heard how Huxtable, also known as Omar Brown, arrived at the station by bus at 6.30pm and became embroiled in a fight with a man he knew outside.

Witnesses described him approaching the victim with a large wooden-handled machete and shouting “I’m going to chop off your head” in front of children and other members of the public.

Sentencing him, Judge Daniel Worsley told Huxtable he had “carried out a coldblooded attack on a male in a public place where women and children were present,” and that the evidence against him was overwhelming.

Speaking after the sentencing, Detective Sergeant Jane Hill from British Transport Police, who led the investigation, said: “This was an horrific attack and it was only a matter of good fortune that the victim’s injuries were not more severe.

“Huxtable’s actions were appalling and he has shown no remorse during the course of his trial, which has been rightly reflected in the lengthy sentence he has received.

“Violent incidents of this nature are rare on the rail network in this area, but BTP takes them very seriously when they do occur, and we will do everything in our power to identify and prosecute those responsible.”
