MR Evans criticises Caerphilly Labour and Independent councillors for reaching a compromise agreement with senior council officers (Argus, February 13).
He supports Nationalist councillors’ attempt to rescind the senior pay award and sack the senior officers. But Labour and Independent councillors did rescind the pay award, when they agreed a different pay settlement. They rightly decided not to sack the officers and try to re-hire them on worse terms. The majority of Caerphilly councillors know that to do so would mean lengthy court action, exposing our council to exorbitant legal costs and putting delivery of essential council services at risk. Labour and Independent councillors have acted responsibly. It’s a shame Mr Evans supports Plaid Cymru’s typically irresponsible ideas.
