FURTHER to Owen Barden's letter in the Wirral Globe dated May 7, stating that "it's only thanks to the constant vigilance of cyclists that there aren't more accidents", I would like to thank Mr Barden for giving me a good laugh.

In the last week while driving my car around Wirral, I have seen two cyclists mounting the pavement at the traffic lights in the middle of Heswall on a busy Saturday afternoon.

They couldn't be bothered to wait at the lights to turn left from Telegraph Road into Pensby Road, and a number of cyclists in separate incidents completely ignoring red traffic lights on the Chester High Road.

Also a couple of weeks ago at the St George's Day parade for the Scouts in West Kirby, a cyclist rode past and in the opposite direction to the parade, despite the fact that the road was temporarily shut to traffic by the police for the safety of the children in the parade.

She beamed at everyone, obviously unaware that if one of the children had stepped out of the line in front of her they would have both been seriously injured.

My husband is a keen cyclist, so I have no problem with cyclists in general, but there are certainly some cyclists who are rude, ignorant and selfish.

The same can be said of drivers I am sure, but cyclists are hardly the saviours of the road.
