THE DRIVER of a van believed to be involved in a hit-and-run with left a 70-year-old fighting for his life is still being hunted by police.

Hampshire police have stepped up their efforts to try and track down the driver of a Ford Transit flatbed vehicle, who officers think was involved in the collision in Fordingbridge on Thursday, April 28.

The crash on the A338 Salisbury Road, at 9.20am left a 70-year-old cyclist fighting for his life.

The man, from Salisbury, was airlifted to Southampton General Hospital in a life threatening condition after suffering from serious head injuries.

He is still in hospital more than two weeks later in a as critical but stable condition.

The vehicle failed to stop at the scene after the crash.

Police had stopped more than 300 vehicles on the road where the collision took place, handing out leaflets to drivers about the Ford Transit they are looking for in an attempt to find the driver.

Now police have released CCTV images of the van they believe was involved in the hit-and-run.

Police officers have also said the registration of the white Ford Transit flatbed vehicle they are searching for is BU53 FVM.

PC Lucy Hawkins said: “This was a serious collision which has left a cyclist fighting for his life in hospital.

“Our investigations have now led us to this vehicle which was captured on CCTV and we would like to speak to anyone who knows where it is.

“We are determined to find this vehicle and we hope the public will help by keeping it in mind when out on the roads of Hampshire.”
