A FAMILY was left traumatised after a gang of yobs attacked their disability car in St Helens and pulled out a knife.

Mindless hooligans hurled a brick at the rear window of a Skoda Yeti belonging to a young disabled man.

Callum White, 21, who has Huntington’s Disease and is confined to a wheelchair, was sitting in the car as the glass splintered into smithereens.

His mum Michelle Ann was driving along Reginald Road on her way to buy fireworks for a family bonfire celebration when the attack happened.

“We noticed youths smashing bottles on the road,” said Michelle, of Bowness Avenue, Moss Bank.

“As I drove past them to reverse and do a three-point turn they lobbed something at the car.”

Callum’s brother and carer Matthew, 29, jumped out to confront the youths.

Matthew said: “I chased after one of them. He stopped, turned around and showed me a knife.

“With all the knife crime happening I stopped and he ran away.

“It looked like a brick they had thrown at the car.”

Matthew fell over as he chased the youth, injuring his knees and breaking a toe.

He added: “They were trying to intimidate us. Kids have no respect these days.

“When I grew up you respected your elders.

“I look after my brother. He is in a wheelchair and relies on this car to get around.”

Mrs White says it will cost around £150 to repair the shattered rear window.

The gang of around 8-10 youths were aged between 13 and 16 years old ran off towards a railway embankment.

The boys were wearing dark clothing and had their faces hidden behind balaclavas.

The youth brandishing a knife had blond hair and was wearing a black jacket with reflective stripes on it.

Merseyside Police has confirmed that a car was damaged in Reginald Road at around 7pm on Tuesday.

Patrols searched the area for the group of youths responsible.

The suspect with the knife and the rest of the gang ran off towards a nearby railway line.

A police spokesman said: “Merseyside Police will not tolerate anti-social behaviour and criminal damage and would encourage anyone with information about this incident to contact the force contact centre via social media or 101, quoting log number 1263 of October 30th 2017.”
