DUKE, the last mill horse in Bradford, is specially decked up for May Day at Bridge Street goods yard.
A shire horse, he looks very grand in his harness as he has his picture taken. His mane has been beautifully decorated for May Day.
His cart has Hollings Mill painted along the side, with the original picture caption stating that Duke is carrying bales of wool from Rob Jowitts.
Weighbridge attendant Frank Martin is holding his reins, with driver Arthur Swales standing behind.
It looks like a warm, sunny day for May 1, on the undated picture.
Does anyone know what role a mill horse played? Maybe someone can tell us when the picture was taken.
