THOUSANDS of teenagers will learn about the plight of tragic Bournemouth stabbing victim Nicholas Ormerod in a bid to raise awareness of the consequences of knife crime.

A video made by his mum has been adopted by a London-based expert in youth offending who hopes it will make youngsters think twice before carrying a knife.

The home-made video shows photographs of Nicholas from his birth until days before he died, then of the spot where he was killed, his funeral and the court where his killer was brought to justice.

Ian Ross, who works with Feltham Young Offenders Institution in London, contacted mum Jane Ormerod after hearing about her campaign against knife crime and asked to use the video in London schools where he works with 13-18-year-olds.

Nicholas, of Cranleigh Road, Southbourne , was 29-years-old when he was stabbed to death by homeless alcoholic Mark Haylock during an argument in a Boscombe flat in April 2011. Haylock was jailed for eight years and it was later revealed he had a previous conviction for a knife-related offence which was not disclosed to the jury.

Since his death Jane and friends decided to set up a charity, Turn Your Back UK, urging members of the public to turn their backs on knife crime.

The group is now setting about fundraising because it needs £5,000 in the bank to become a registered charity. More details are available from www. tybuk.com
