FREE vehicle crime prevention will be available to motorists at events around the Selby district this weekend.

Officers from North Yorkshire Police will host the vehicle crime prevention days at five villages around Selby on Saturday, with the Safer Neighbourhood Team presenting 45-minute roadshows at Burton Salmon, Byram and Brotherton, Fairburn and Birkin.

The team will have free catalytic converter marking kits for motorists, free number plate theft packs, and will provide free property marking and registration on the Immobilise property register, for small, high-value items.

PCSO Rebecca Chessman said: “It’s important that we get out into our communities and raise awareness of the various crime prevention tools which are available to the public.

“Not everyone has the time to call in at the main police stations to ask for advice or pick up a kit.

“By taking our events right into the heart of our communities, we hope more people will take up the offers and benefit from increased security.

“It is also a good opportunity for members of the public to come along and have a chat with us and meet their local policing team.”

The vehicle crime prevention events will be held at the following locations: Burton Salmon village hall, Main Street, between 9.30am and 10.15am Byram and Brotherton village hall Great North Road, between 10.30am and 11.15am Fairburn village hall, Great North Road, between 11.30am and 12.15pm Birkin, close to St Mary’s Church, between 1.30pm and 2.15pm
