AFTER the long delay to repair our highways’ potholes, the county council has attempted to carry out repairs spasmodically, doing some and missing some on the same stretch of road.
I note the repairs are nothing more than a quick fix to stop the barrage of complaints aimed at the Highways Department of the county council.
Several of the tarmac fillings are already breaking loose because one vital repair procedure is omitted. Hot liquid tar should be poured around the repair site between the new and existing tarmac. This not only forms a seal but also provides a flexible joint between old and new when big temperature changes occur. Just filling a hole with tarmac and ramming or rolling it is simply not good enough.
Is this situation a case of the council cutting corners with quick-fix instructions, or is it simply a case of the repairs department lacking in knowledge?
