THE archaic system of pampering judges in their own grace-and-favour lodgings needs stopping right now.
Our judges, recorders and magistrates are now so out of touch with what the general public thinks the sentences should be for criminals. Victim Alan Shaw (The Press, April 19) summed it up perfectly in his opinion of the leniency shown to his attacker.
Criminals need not only a deterrent from committing their crimes, they also need proper punishment when found guilty. Our judges now use rehabilitation orders as an excuse for fudging their duty to protect the public. All that wig wearing must have softened their brains.
