POPULATION of Yorkshire: 5.3 million. Demonstrators marching through York to get Richard III buried here: “about 100”. So 0.0000000188 per cent of the population of Yorkshire felt strongly enough about this, yet it makes your front page (The Press, May 7).
Vanessa Roe described on your front page as “a descendant of Richard III” cannot be since he had one son who died (childless) in 1484.
Lawrence Kirkpatrick is quoted as saying Richard should come to York because “the clue is in the name”. Does he mean Richard of York? This was Richard Duke of York, Richard III’s father. Does he mean that Richard of York should also be exhumed and brought to the Minster? Richard III was of course Richard of Gloucester.
Without the sterling work of Philippa Langley of the Richard III Society and Leicester University, the skeleton would still be under a car park. Now all the hard work has been done 100 people think York should get the glory? Get a grip.
