A BOURNEMOUTH mum is organising her second charity variety show after losing five family members to cancer.

Connie O’Gormley last year raised more than £2,000 for Cancer Research UK and was so thrilled with the show’s success that she is now making it an annual event.

The 37-year-old, who is also a committee member of local fundraising group Beat Cancer Bournemouth, was compelled to do something to help after losing her step-mum and two grandmothers in the space of 18 months. She had previously also lost her uncle and granddad to the disease.

Connie, from Townsend, said: “This year I want to raise more money and more awareness of the illness.

“My three main aims are to raise as much money as possible, to raise awareness of what Cancer Research UK do and that they are funded 100 per cent by the public and finally to inspire other people to make a difference in the fight against cancer. If I can do it, then anybody can.”

The event takes place at Bournemouth East Liberal Club in Holdenhurst Road, Bournemouth, on Saturday July 27 from 6pm and features a range of entertainment including magic, dance, live music, belly dancing, a Michael Jackson tribute and a hypnotist, as well as a barbecue.

There will also be plenty for children including face painting and a kids’ disco.

Tickets are now on sale priced £5 for adults and £1 for under 14s with 100 per cent of the proceeds going to Cancer Research UK. Call Connie on 07830 210434, Neil on 07799 372892 or email charityevent2012@aol.com.
