I AM a disabled person, and I use the path that goes down from Penally Station, across the firing range and golf course, and down to the beach, and I was dismayed to find part of the path to the beach was closed.
I have to go across the dunes now, and I find that path most uneven, so heaven help anyone more disabled than I am, as it’s not tarmaced at the moment, and it doesn’t look like it’s going to be.
The seating area that was part of the path has also been removed, and that means that wheelchair users will no longer have anywhere to sit, and watch their families on the beach either, and as they cannot manage the dunes path at all, they are not going to be able to go anywhere.
I have spoken to someone mending the path, and he said that they had done all the work on that path that was intended, and when asked about the wheelchair user, he simply said that they would have to manage with the arrangements already made, and that was that.
I don’t really consider that to be an answer at all.
It seems the disabled are not important enough to worry about, and that is very hurtful, so I have written to you, in the hope, that by reading about it in your paper, someone else will also take up the challenge to get things done.
