TRANMERE Rovers take on Coventry City in League One action at the Ricoh Arena tonight.

Kicking off at 7.45pm, it will be only the 16th time the two clubs have met.

Rovers have seven wins to Coventry's six, including the 2-0 victory at Prenton Park earlier this season. The match will be Rovers' first ever game at the Ricoh Arena, but the Club has won on the road against the Sky Blues before, beating them 2-1 at Highfield Road in 1925-26.

Their most recent away game against Coventry was a 3-1 defeat in the Worthington Cup second round second leg in 1999-2000, however the 5-1 home win in the first leg was enough to keep John Aldridge's side on the road to Wembley.

Coventry go into the game in 13th place and with 37 points. At the Ricoh Arena they have won three, drawn five and lost five this season.

Looking ahead to tonight's match, Rovers' boss Ronnie Moore said earlier this week: "Coventry are a big club and have a big club mentality, they also have a very good manager in Mark Robins who knows the game inside out. This is going to be a very tough game."

Moore will have an unchanged squad to select from for the game. Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro and Abdulai Bell-Baggie returned to the substitutes’ bench in the 2-0 win over Crawley following long spells out injured.

Moore hopes to give them both time on the pitch at the Ricoh Arena. James Wallace will miss out because of a knee injury but could return to the squad in early February.

Rovers stayed top of League One on Saturday after first-half goals from David Amoo and Zoumana Bakayogo sealed a comfortable victory over visitors Crawley.

Amoo opened the scoring just before the half-hour with a close-range header. Bakayogo doubled Rovers lead with a looping cross hitting the post and rebounding in off keeper Paul Jones.

It was Rovers' fourth consecutive league victory and kept them at the top of the division with 53 points.

Their League One campaign continues at Brentford on Saturday, January 19, and Swindon Town at Prenton Park the following week.

With Rovers now approaching the final third of the League One campaign, Moore said: "We've got to attack, because when we do and we've got pace we are going to cause teams problems.

"The four games this month are massive.

"After January there will be 16 games left to the end of the season and everyone is going to be disappointed if we don’t make the play-offs."
