A NEW cycle path through Nelson has been approved by Lancashire County Council.
The route, along the eastern side of New Scotland Road between its junctions with Bradley Road and Leeds Road, has got the go-ahead from cabinet member for highways and transport, County Coun John Fillis.
The plans will change the current footway into a cycle track incorporating rights of way for pedestrians.
A report by the county environment directorate said: “In this case it is considered that discrete footways for pedestrians only are no longer necessary as the proposed cycle tracks will include a right of way for pedestrians wide enough for cyclists and pedestrians to safely share.”
The £15,750 scheme will be paid for using the authority’s road safety budget.
