PLANS to erect a mobile phone mast in Swanley have been withdrawn after strong opposition from the town council.
At a meeting of Swanley Town Council's development control committee, councillors unanimously opposed the application.
The application by BT to erect an 18m lattice tower was rejected on the grounds it would be an eyesore in the middle of the town.
The mast was to be situated behind the telephone exchange, in London Road, but councillors said this would result in the tower being visible throughout the town and said it was “a totally unacceptable form” of development.
Following the council's recommendations to Sevenoaks District Council's development control committee, BT decided to withdraw the application.
